Uncle B, I'm right with ya... I think the best way out of this mess is to learn about and understand the world around us and then find out how to live with it so that the relationship is mutually beneficial. Make sure you read my post below about eating mushrooms. For the radiation, I don't think they actually eat it, but they can concentrate it in the mushrooms and therefore clean up the soil.

Fungi can do cool things like hyperconcentrate contaminants (like heavy metals and radiation). That is, they can take the contaminants from the soil and then send the chemicals to the mushrooms so the compounds occur in much higher concentrations in the mushrooms and eventually, the soil will be clean. Stamets talks about it in his latest book. That means that you **SHOULD NOT EAT** mushrooms in contaminated areas! Even mushrooms growing along roadsides should be avoided because they can have high concentrations of chemicals from car exhaust. Also, make sure you know what you're doing if you're eating wild mushrooms.

Humankind must be aware of gigantic human-eater mushrooms, once I saw one and let me tell you, those mushrooms can eat a person alive, at least a skiny one, be extremely careful, ok?

Heard fungi eat radiation. Question: Can we eat fungi fed on radiation safely? Were you able to eat the fungi grown in the oil-spill, or did they take on the poisons, ar any bad flavors? Fungi on net proclaimed to turn wood fiber directly to diesel like fuel, is this practical for industrial exploitation? Also: Will this great republican depression teach humanity to live on what it needs for survival, not on whatever it decides it wants? I am a troubled soul for what goes on in the world today. Will the hard times yield a better American society?

That's a very interesting thing. However, in my country I observed, now with the earth heating thing, that mushrooms disapear from the forests.
